Rajaji National Park

Rajaji National Park is spread across the Haridwar, Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal districts of Uttarakhand state in India. It is also Tiger Reserve. Chilla town is the entry point to the park. Chilla is also spelt as Chila.

This national park is named after Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, fondly known as Rajaji. He was the last (and second) Governor-General of Independent India, after Lord Louis Mountbatten.

Rajaji Park is spread across both sides of the holy river Ganges. It has an area of 820.20 square kilometers. This national park is part of the Shivalik ranges in the Himalayan foothills. It is very rich in biodiversity.

Rajaji Park is rich in flora and fauna. Asian Elephants are found in large numbers. Cheetal, Leopard, Wild Boar, Barking deer, Nilgai, Goral, Sambar deer, etc, are some of the other animals found here. Rhesus Macaque and the Hanuman Langur are the primitive animals here. Over 400 bird species are found here in this park. King Cobras, Indian Cobras, Pythons, Common Kraits, and Monitor Lizard are some of the reptile species in this national park.

Rajaji Park offers Jeep Safari. Trekking, bird watching, river rafting, etc, are some of the major activities for any tourist to this park. You can take a Sedan or SUV and go on a Safari to Rajaji Park from Dehradun.

How do I go to Rajaji National Park?

Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun are the nearest railway stations to the park. It is around eight kilometers from Haridwar Railway Station. Rishikesh is at a distance of about 24 kilometers. Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand state is at a distance of 56 kilometers from the national park.

Jolly Grant Airport is around 35 kilometers from the park. The park boundary is very close to this airport.

New Delhi is at a distance of 220 kilometers.
