Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary

Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve near Mailani Town in Lakhimpur Kheri district, Utter Pradesh, India. In 1972, this park came into existence. It has an area of 227 square kilometers or 88 square miles. Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary and Dudhwa National Park are the other national parks in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.

Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna. The main trees in this sanctuary include Jamun, Sal, and Teak. The main animal fauna includes Royal Bengal Tigers (Indian Tigers alias Asian Tigers), Swamp Deers alias Barasingha, Leopards, Barking Deer, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer, etc.

Swamp Deer ( Barasingha ) is the state animal of Uttar Pradesh state. Kishanpur Sanctuary and surrounding areas are the best places to sight them.

Birds of Kishanpur

Jhadi Tal is the main water body in Kishanpur Sanctuary. It is a paradise for birds. Other than the birds, chital, barasingha, or otters are there in this lake

Critically Endangered species like Bengal Florican alias Bengal Bustard and Lesser Florican exist in this park. Two-thirds of the Bengal Florican population exists in Cambodia. India and Nepal are the other habitats for one-third of Bengal Florican birds.

Impressive aerial courtship displays by the male Lesser Florican are beautiful. Surprisingly, they do this vertically in the air up to 500 times daily. This makes them vulnerable to hunting. Presently, the total global population of Florians is estimated to be 1,500 adults. These birds are endemic to North-West India. Also, a minor population of these birds is found in neighboring countries like Nepal and Pakistan.

How Do I Go to Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary?

Bhira town is the nearest town to the wildlife sanctuary, around 13 kilometers away. It is approximately 30 kilometers distance from Dudhwa National Park.

Jeep Safari is available from the entry gate of the wildlife park.
