Ranikhet Hill Station, HQs of Naga & Kumaon Regiments

Ranikhet hill station is situated in the western peaks of the Himalayas, at an altitude of 1,869 meters (6,132 feet), in Almora district of Uttarakhand state, India. Naga regiment and Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army are situated here. A Military Hospital (Army Hospital) is also there.

In 1869, the Kumaon Regiment’s headquarters was established here. Long back, Nepalese ruled Ranikhet, and the Kumaonese people got freedom in 1816 with British help.

The hill station is rich in Flora and Fauna. Pine, deodar, oak, etc., dot the forests of Ranikhet. Many wild animals, birds, and Reptiles live in the forests of the Ranikhet Hill Station.

Around five kilometers from Ranikhet city, there is a 9-hole Golf Course. This is among the highest golf courses in Asia and is a prime attraction here. It is known as Upat Golf Course or Ranikhet Golf Course.

There is an urban jungle theme park for children in the town. It is known as Ashiyana Park.

Boating is allowed in the artificial lake known as Rani Jheel.

Baludham Dam or Bhalu Dam and the dam site offer an excellent view of the Himalayan peaks and are popular picnic spots. Majkhali is another place 12 kilometers from the town, which gives you a panoramic view of the Himalayas.

Ranikhet Hill station is around 350 kilometers from New Delhi, the capital city of India. Kathgodam Railway Station, at approximately 68 kilometers distance, is the nearest railway station to the Naga Regiment & Kumaon Regiment head offices at Ranikhet Hill Station.

The nearest airport is the one at Pantnagar. The domestic airport, with IATA code PGH and ICAO code VIPT, is at around 110 kilometers distance. There are daily Air India Regional (previously known as Alliance Air) flights from Pantnagar to New Delhi. Many a time, the bad weather prevents flight operations here in Pantnagar. Nainital, Lake District of Uttarakhand, which is also a hill station, is around 60 kilometers distance from Ranikhet.
