Parshuram Kund is in the lower reaches of the Lohit River on the Brahmaputra plateau, in the Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh state, India. Dedicated to Lord Parshuram, the sixth avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu, this popular Hindu pilgrimage place attracts many pilgrims from India and Nepal.

Thousands and thousands of devotees and sadhus (sages) take a holy dip at this sacred place, in January each year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. It is believed that Parashuram washed away the sins of killing Kshatriyas in the waters of Brahma Kund (The reason for the killings was that Kshatriyas killed Prashuram’s father and waged a war against Brahmins).
The site of the Parashuram Kund, as established by the great sadhu Parashuram, was in existence till 1950. The old site was entirely damaged by the great earthquake that shook the whole of the Northeastern states of India at that time. The Parashuram Kund was wholly covered. A powerful current is now flowing over the original site of the kind, and another kund is now in place of the old one. (kund means small reservoir where water is stored.)
