Gangotri Char Dham Tour

Gangotri Char Dham Tour, or Chota Char  Dham tour, consists of visiting Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath temples in Uttarakhand in India. Chota means small in the Indian language, Hindi.

This pilgrimage tour is considered one of the most sacred Hindu Pilgrimage tours.  Gangotri is in the Himalayas, at an altitude of around 3100 meters above sea level. River Ganga or Bhagirathi originates here. It is at a distance of 19 kilometers from Gangotri town, which can be trekked.

Char Dham Pilgrimage Tour consists of visiting Badrinath Temple, Dwarka Temple,  Puri Jagannath Temple, and Rameswaram Temple (Char Dham Pilgrimage tour is not Chota Char Dham pilgrimage tour)

Overall, Gangotri temple is the seat of Goddess Ganga. There is a Submerged Shivlingam here.

Purpose of Char Dham Tour

Char Dham Tour liberates you of your sins and leads you to salvation as per Hindu belief. The confluence of the River Ganga, River Yamuna (two physical rivers), and the invisible or mythic River Saraswati, three of the most sacred rivers, is at Allahabad.

Taking a holy dip at the confluence of three holy rivers, Triveni Sangam at Prayag in Allahabad is considered the most sacred. Allahabad is a holy place for Hindus.  It is believed that taking a bath at Allahabad takes away your sins and absolves you of your sins. It is a site where many immerse the ashes of their immediate relatives. Mahatma Gandhi‘s ashes were also immersed here.

How Do I Go to Gangotri?

Rishikesh Railway Station is one of the nearest railway stations, approximately 250 kilometers away. Its station code is RKSH. Yog Nagari Rishikesh Railway Station is the new railway station inaugurated on 12 January 2021. It is serving pilgrims to Rishikesh along with the previously existing railway station. The new railway station’s code is YNRK. It is 2 kilometers to the west of Rishikesh station. Both stations have three platforms each.

Haridwar Junction railway station is approximately 285 kilometers away. New Delhi is approximately 500 kilometers distance.

Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, around 260 kilometers distance, is the nearest airport.

Delhi, Rishikesh, Dehradun, etc., are connected to Gangotri by roads.
