Khopoli Hill Station

Khopoli Hill Station is between Mumbai and Pune, close to the Mumbai – Pune National Highway. It is a weekend getaway destination for Mumbai, Pune, and nearby city residents.

Rajmachi Killa or Rajmachi Fort

Trekking to Rajmachi Fort or Rajmachi killa (killa means fort in the local language) is a major activity here. This ancient historic fort was once the stronghold of Maratha Kingdom. It consists of two fortresses: Shriwardhan and Manaranjan. There is a vast plateau surrounding these two fortresses.

Rajmachi Killa, or Rajmachi Fort, is a protected monument. It was the site of the first Anglo-Maratha War between the British East India Company and the Maratha Empire. The British were decimated in this war.

Udhewadi village, with a small population of just 60 families, is the base station of this fort at the southern foot of the fort.

Imagicaa Theme Park at Khopoli

One of the main attractions for any tourist to Khopoli Hills is the Imagicaa theme park. It can be considered as the best theme park in India. It has many firsts to its credit.

Imagicaa has an area of over 130 acres of land. It can accommodate 15,000 visitors per day!

Imagicaa Management Change

Imagicaa World Entertainment, earlier known as Adlabs Entertainment, which owns the theme park, changed hands in 2022 due to a debt restructuring plan. The Malpani Group took over Imagicaa. Imagicaa became the fourth amusement park owned by the Malpani group. The group owns and operates two Wet N Joy water theme parks at Lonavala and Shirdi. They also have India’s first devotional theme park at Sai Teerth at Shirdi.

Tungarli Lake and Tungarli Dam

Tungarli Lake is yet another major attraction at this hill station. This picturesque lake has calm blue waters. Tungarli Dam supplies water to this lake. Also, Tungarli Dam is the primary water source for some of the nearby hill stations. This dam was built in the 1930s.

You will get an unparalleled view of the Sahyadri range of mountains from the lakeside. It would help if you trekked a short distance to reach the Tungarli lake. On your way to the top, There are street vendors selling snacks and food items. Lohagad Fort is visible from here.

Other attractions

Tiger’s leap viewpoint gives a memorizing view of the Eastern ghats. Khopoli waterfall is a major tourist attraction in the hill station.

When are You Going to Khopoli Hills?

Unlike many of the other nearby hill stations, Khopoli Hills is a budget-friendly location.

Lonavala Hills is another hill station on the same Mumba- Pune highway expressway side close to the Khopoli hill station. Khopoli to Mumbai distance is 70 kilometers, and it usually takes one and a half hours to cover this distance by car.
