About VaishnoDevi Cave Temple Location

Vaishno Devi Temple is temple located inside a cave, on the lap a mountain. The nearest town is Katra town. This temple is at an altitude of 1,615 meters, or 5200 feet.

The base camp to trek to the temple on top of the Trikuta Mountains, is at 13 kilometers Katra town. This temple is at 42 kilometers from the city of Jammu. Udhampur city is 35 kilometers away.

It is situated in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir , India.

About the Vaishno Devi Cave Temple

VaishnoDevi Mandir is a very popular Hindu temple dedicated to the incarnation of the Hindu Goddess, Durga mata. VaishnoDevi is a manifestation of the Hindu Goddess of MahaKali, MahaSaraswati and MahaLakshmi. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board manages the temple adminisration.

This temple is inside a cave. A geological study of the Holy Cave has indicated its age to be close to a million years!

How to Go to VaishnoDevi Cave Temple?

Before going to this temple, devotees has to register with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. You will be provided with RFID access card.

Ponies, Electric battery cars and paalkhis operated by 2 or 4 persons are available to go to the cave temple on the mountains. Helicopter services are also available to go up to Sanjichhat, which is 9.5 kilomers from Katra town.

If you prefer to trek, it takes around 12 hours from the Katra base camp to reach the temple.

At the culmination of their pilgrimage, the yatries are blessed with the Darshans of the Mother Goddess inside the Sanctum Sanctorum- the Holy Cave. These Darshans are in the shape of three natural rock formations called the Pindies. There are no statues or idols inside the Cave temple.

Vaishno Devi Temple Timings

Darshans are open round the clock throughout the year. The best season to visit Vaishno Devi is October to March, as you can visit the original cave of Mata VaishnoDevi.

Pulic Transport Connectivity to Temple

The nearest airport is located at Jammu. The nearby Railway station is Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra  railway station on the Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway line.

From Delhi, options include buses which go direct to Katra, or the train and flights.
