Vagamon Glass Bridge
Vagamon glass bridge is a cantilever glass bridge. It was made of German 40 mm glasses of five layers. 35 tonnes of steel was used for the cantilever bridge. It was opened in September 2023. This glass cantilever bridge is the longest cantilever bridge in India, with a length of 40 meters. It is at an altitude of 3500 feet above sea level.
This Glass Bridge is at the Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC)’s Adventure Park at Vagamon. The entry fee to the Vagamon Glass Bridge was reduced to Rs 250 after the glass bridge was opened.

This hill station is situated in the border areas of the Kottayam and Idukki districts of Kerala. Vagamon is also spelt as Wagamon. This hill station is known for its cool climate throughout the year. The famous Christian pilgrimage center, Kurisumala, is at Wagamon. Thangal and Murugan Hills are other favorite tourist places for Muslims and Hindus at Wagamon.
Vagamon is a tourist place known for its pine forests, tea plantations, and mist-filled greenery with beautiful valleys, meadows, waterfalls, etc.
Wagamon is rich in flora and fauna. There is a large variety of flowers in Wagamon, and wide varieties of Orchids are also seen. Wagamon Hills are part of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Nearby Tourist Places to Wagamon
Karikadu Viewpoint is on the Erattupetta-Vagamon Road. An excellent view of the hills and valleys is one beautiful view. The meandering road to Vagamon is another scene from Karikadu viewpoint. It’s at a distance of about 4.5 kilometers ahead of Vagamon. You can see the statue of a panther from here.
S Turn (a turn in the shape of the English letter S on the ghat road) is a viewpoint to watch the sunrise.
Pullikkanam is a hill station near Vagamon at 1,100 meters above sea level. The Pullikkanam Tea Estate is situated here. They have a factory outlet there, where you can buy quality tea powder.
Kolahalamedu Orchid Garden, alias Vagamon Floriculture Center, has an area of 15 hectares. It is at Kolahalamedu on the Vagamon-Pullikkanam Road. It is the first Orchid garden in Kerala state, opened in 2014. The Kerala Forest Development Corporation maintains it. Pine Forest is another favorite destination for tourists near the Orchid Garden.
Mottakunnu at Kolahalamedu is another nearby tourist destination. Palozhukum Para Waterfalls at Kolahalamedu is also close to Mottakunnu.
Ilaveezhapoonjira, alias Poonchira Mountains, is a trekking destination at Melukavu (Melukavumattom) village in Kottayam district. It is about 36 kilometers from Wagamon Hills.
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary at Kumali (Thekkady) is 48 kilometers away. Munnar Hill Station is 90 kilometers away.

Vagamon is gaining popularity as a leading Paragliding destination in south India. Those interested can go for paid paragliding at Vagamon from the first week of January.
Paragliding Grand Prix 2019
Paragliding Grand Prix Vagamon 2019 was a paragliding event that brought para-gliders worldwide. In September 2019, the paragliding festival 2019 was held here.
International Paragliding Festival 2018
The international paragliding festival 2018 was held at Kolahalmedu, Vagamon, from January 20th to February 18th, 2018. Kerala Tourism and Adventure Sports & Sustainable Tourism Academy organized this mega event.
How Do I Go to Vagamon Hill Station?
The ghat road from Teekoy near Erattupetta offers the best connectivity to Wagamon. Erattupetta is about 26 kilometers from this small hill station. This winding road goes through some of the most dangerous cliffs, showing the valley’s best view. There is a memorial for those workers who gave up their lives while constructing this road near the starting point of this road.
Kottayam Railway Station is the nearest railway station to this hill station, at around 65 kilometers. Cochin International Airport at Nedumbraseery is the nearest airport to Wagamon Hill Station, about 125 kilometers from this famous hill station.
