Uttarakhand Reopens for Tourism and Pilgrimage

Uttarakhand state has many pilgrimage sites; Gangotri and Yamunotri are prominent pilgrimage places. They are open from 3rd May 2022. Kedarnath and Badrinath temples are open from 6th May 2022. There are no COVID-related restrictions. (This paragraph was added in May 2022)

Uttarakhand state in India has reopened its tourist and pilgrimage destinations with certain conditions. Inter-state and inter-district tourists can visit the tourist places in the state without going for institutional quarantine, provided that they carry their COVID-19 negative test result, which needs to be taken no earlier than 72 hours before their travel to Uttarakhand state.

Mussoorie is one of the most sought-after hill stations and tourist destinations in the state of Uttarakhand. Those interested in visiting Mussoorie will be allowed entry, only after showing proof of booking for seven days, along with their negative Corona test report that has been issued in the last 72 hours. If any of the tourists entering the state fail to produce a Corona negative test certificate, they will be quarantined for seven days; that is the reason why seven days hotel booking is required. Thereafter, they will be able to explore the tourist attractions. Also, note that the tourists will be allowed entry only between 7 AM and 10 PM, in Mussoorie.

For the Char Dham Pilgrimage Tour, Uttarakhand state residents will be allowed entry inside the temples, without the entry pass.   Those coming to the state of Uttarakhand from other states in India, need to apply for the Char Dham entry pass after reaching Uttarakhand. It takes around three to seven days to get the Char Dham Entry passes in such cases. You need to be in self-quarantine during those days. Tourists and Pilgrims coming from states with high Corona cases may be denied the Char Dham entry pass if found to have Corona symptoms.

Four temples need to be visited, as part of the Char Dham pilgrimage.  Apart from the Badrinath temple in Uttarakhand, other temples are Dwaraka in Gujarat state, Puri in Odisha state, and Rameswaram in Tamilnadu state;  spread across the four corners of India.

Kedarnath temple is also opened as part of this Unlock 2.0 package for tourists to Uttarakhand state in India. Kedarnath temple is a famous temple in India, which is visited as part of the Chota Char Dham Pilgrimage package. Chota Char Dham pilgrimage consists of visiting Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, all in Uttarakhand state. As part of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage, one has to first go to the Yamunotri temple. Up to 350 passes are allowed per day to Yamunotri temple from July 2020.

Char Dham and Chota Char Dham pilgrimage tours are considered to provide salvation, as per Hindu belief.

Medical Facilities In Case of Corona Infected in Uttarakhand

Medical facilities are provided for those tourists infected with Corona. They will be required to pay for the medical assistance provided in such cases.
