Shree Khodaldham Temple is a temple at Kagvad in Gujarat, India. It is a relatively new temple, opened in 2017. It is also known as Shree Khodaldham Mandir (Dham means abode, and Mandir means a Hindu or Jain temple).
The deity is Khodal, a folk goddess work-shipped by the Patidars alias Patel community. The goddess is also called Khodal Mata or Khodal Ma, or Khodal Devi.
The Shree Khodaldham Trust constructed the Shree Khodaldham Mandir at Kagvad. The construction of the temple began in 2012. The temple was inaugurated on the 21st of January 2017. The total project cost was ₹250 crore (Indian rupees) or $31 million (US Dollars). It is estimated that around 3 million people attended the inaugural function of this Khodal Ma Patidar temple.
The architecture of this temple is that of Maru-Gurjara architecture, also known as Chaulukya style or Solaṅkī style. This architectural style originated in the 11th to 13th centuries, under the Chaulukya dynasty (also known as the Solanki dynasty).
The Khodal Mata temple height is 159 feet and 1 inch. It was kept deliberately lower than that of the Somnath temple, as a mark of respect to its supremacy over Khodaldham Mata Temple.
There are around 650 statues on the exterior of this Khodal Devi temple. Artisans chiseled these from Odisha state. The 72 carvings from Mahabharata and Ramayana on the gateway, pillars, beams, and roofs were done by artisans from Rajasthan state. Pink stones measuring around 230000 cubic feet from Bansi Paharpur in Rajasthan state were used to construct this Patel temple at Kagvad.
