Sambranikodi Island near Kollam

Sambranikodi island is situated on the southern tip of Ashtamudi Lake, near to Kollam city, Kerala state, India. Beautiful lagoons along with a breath-taking view of waterways lined with lush mangroves are the specialty of this island. This island has shallow, deep-knee water, that allows you to rewind yourself.

Sambranikodi island offers you delicious local cuisine from many of the restaurants there. You may also be able to watch the local fishermen’s life from a close range. You can also engage in fishing in many of the fishing islands here. Collecting clams is another activity that is popular here.

Sambranikodi island has Kettuvallams that takes you though the island. Kettuvallams are the traditional houseboats used in the state of Kerala, used to transport goods in olden days. Kettuvallams now has changed with the times, with all modern amities on-board.

The island and the surrounding areas are rich in fauna. You can explore the marine ecosystem here. Algae, fish, Mollusca, etc., are seen here. Lot of bird species are also seen here.

How Do I Go to Sambranikodi?

Sambranikodi is 12 kilometers from Kollam KSRTC bus station. You need to board any Private bus to Prakkulam. They stop in front of Taluk office (Kachery padi). It is opposite to Shrine of Our Lady Velankanni, Kollam. Get down at Sambranikodi.

Autorickshaw charges to the island bus stop from Kollam city is around Rs 400.

There is an entry fee of Rs 150 per head to enter this island by the KTDC boats from the bus stop. this package is known as “Explore Sambranikodi”. You may also hire private boats to reach the island.

KTDC tour packages to these islands are available. “Elite Package” costs Rs 100 per passenger, while the “Economy Package” costs Rs 700 per passenger. Elite package includes launch at the Club Mahindra Floating Resort, while Economy package has launch at Theeram Restaurant.

Once you reach the island, there are private boats that takes you around the islands for Rs 50. the duration is 20 minutes.

Where can I Stay at Sambranikodi?

Club Mahindra Resort is floating resort here. One side of the resort is on the land. There are huts that are projected into the backwaters.
