About Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary
Rajasthan continues to strengthen its wildlife conservation efforts with the development of the Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve (RVTR), a promising habitat for the future of the Royal Bengal Tiger in the state. Situated near Bundi district, this reserve is emerging as an important wildlife corridor that will support tiger conservation, biodiversity protection, and eco-tourism in the region. It is India’s declared as India’s 52nd Tiger Reserve, in 2022. It is spread over 1500 square kilometers of Aravalli landscape. It connects Ranthambhore and Mukundra Hills.
With suitable forest cover, water availability, and strategic location between Ranthambore and Mukundra Tiger Reserves, Ramgarh is gradually being developed as a safe and sustainable home for big cats and their prey base.
Relocation of a Tigress to Vishdhari Tiger Reserve
In a major step towards strengthening the tiger population in Rajasthan, a tigress is being relocated to Ramgarh Tiger Reserve on November 28.
This tigress is being brought from the Pench Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh as part of a larger wildlife translocation plan. Over the next few months, five tigresses from forest areas of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra will be relocated to Ramgarh. The aim is to improve genetic diversity and establish a stable breeding population of tigers in this reserve.
To ensure safety during the journey, the tigress is being transported using a MI-17 transport helicopter. This method allows for faster and stress-reduced relocation under expert veterinary and forest department supervision.
Why this Tiger Reserve is Important for Rajasthan
Ramgarh Tiger Reserve holds great ecological importance for Rajasthan due to several reasons:
- It helps reduce pressure on Ranthambore’s existing tiger population.
- It strengthens wildlife corridors between northern and southern forest regions.
- It enhances biodiversity by supporting prey species, vegetation, and local ecosystems.
- It promotes responsible wildlife tourism and local employment opportunities.
The reserve is expected to play a key role in Rajasthan’s long-term conservation strategy, offering a safer territory for relocated tigers and contributing to the national goal of increasing tiger numbers.

Future of Wildlife Conservation in Ramgarh
With scientific planning, habitat management, and continuous monitoring, Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve is set to become one of Rajasthan’s significant conservation successes. The relocation of tigresses marks only the beginning of a broader plan to restore and sustain a healthy tiger population in the region.
In the coming years, Ramgarh will not only support wildlife growth but also increase awareness about conservation among local communities and visitors.
