About Mysore Palace
Mysore Palace, or the Amba Vilas Palace, as it is known officially, is the official residential palace of the Wodeyars. Wodeyars were the erstwhile royal family of the Princely state of Mysore in Karnataka State, India. Mysure is the new name of the city from 2007.
Amba Vilas Palace is one of the many Palaces in and around Mysure or Mysore. It is a major tourist attraction, a three-storied stone structure that blends Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic styles of architecture. Amba Vilas Palace at Mysore is a masterpiece of Indo-Saracenic architecture.
Wodeyars were the rulers of the Mysore princely state for centuries till Indian independence. They made Mysore their capital in the 14th century.
The current palace construction was started in 1897 and completed in 1912. The current palace was renovated in 1940.
Dasara Festival
The Palace at Mysore is the focal point of the Dasara festival (mainly in September/October). On the tenth day of the Dasara festival, there is a parade with caparisoned elephants and other floats, which make it very colorful and is now an integral part of Mysure culture and is a highlight of the Karnataka tourism festival. Mysore tourism industry will be at its best during the Dasara festival season.

Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery at Jaganmohan Palace
Jaganmohana Palace now houses a private art museum. Jaganmohana Palace was renamed as Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery. Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar made this palace a trust in 1950. It is open to the public.
Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery is approximately 200 meters west of the Amba Vilas Palace. It was the alternative royal residence of the Mysore Kings.

Brindavan Gardens, St. Philomena Church, and Mysuru Zoo are within the city. Chamundi Hills is an excellent destination for night view at 11 kilometers away. Srirangapattinam Palace of Tipu Sultan, known as the Daria Daulat Bagh or Garden of the Sea of Wealth and Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, etc., are other nearby tourist places at 14 to 17 kilometers away at Srirangapatana.
Balamuri Falls
Balamuri Falls is a small yet beautiful fall. It is about 17 kilometers away from Mysore Palace. River Cauveri falls from a short height here. Though it is a minor fall, there are concrete steps where one can sit and relax, and water pours over your body. You may even bend and have a bath, too. Coracles are there for boating. You will get fresh fish fry there.
Chunchanakatte Falls
The unique Chunchanakatte Falls is at a distance of around 60 kilometers from Mysure palace.
