The submarine ship, including its weapons, was hauled to the Bay of Bengal seashore and mounted on a concrete platform at Gajapathi Raju Marg on the Ramakrishna Beach Road. The Museum was opened to the public in 2002.
INS Kursura was commissioned in 1969 by the Soviet Union. After 31 years of service, INS Kursura, an India-Pakistan war participant, was decommissioned in 2001. INS Kursura was India’s fourth submarine.
There are six guides and one curator, ex-Navy staff, who will explain the Submarine’s history and activities to the visitors to the Museum. INS Kursura participated in the Indo-Pak War in 1971. The Museum is a must-see museum for any visitor to this port city of Visakhapatnam. The submarine is still getting the “Dressing Ship” honour from the Indian Navy, which is typically awarded to active ships only.
