About Kumara Parvatha trekking

Kumara Parvatha trekking starting point is from Kukke Subramanya. Trekking distance is approximately 22 kilometers. Trekking can be done on a single day or as a two days package. Kukke Subrahmanya Temple is an ancient temple on the foothills of the trekking route.

It is after crossing the Shesha Parvatha Peak that Kumara Parvathaalias alias Pushpagiri is visible, deep inside the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary.

Kumara Parvatha is the second highest peak in Kodagu district. It is slightly difficult. First times are not advised to take up this trekking.

You can take your vehicle to the base station near the Kukke Subrahmanya Temple. More than 10 cars can be parked at the base station. The base staion is around one and a half kilomers from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Bus stop at Kukke.

Kumara Parvatha Two day Trekking Itenery

If you are going for the two day trekking to Kumara Parvatha, the over night stay is provided at the Bhattara Mane (Bhatta’s House), to the left of the Forest Office. There is a superb view point to the right of the forest office, here on top. You need to inform Bhatta of your arrival, so that he keeps the raw meterils reqquired to make food for you. It is the only place where you get food on the trail. You may hire sleeping bags or tent from Bhattara Mane for overnight stay, that can not be caried beyound the forest office here. It is around six kiloters in distance, though it takes around five hours or little more, as you have to pass through thick forests. The trail path is very well marked. Bheemana Bande or Bheema Rock, which is around 3.5 kilometers from the base staion, is a popular resting point. Leeches may bite you. Be prepared for leech bytes, with knowledge of remedial measures to be taken in such situations like carrying salt, or dettol.

On the second day, you need to pay the fees at the forest office, to trek to Shesha Parvatha and from there to Kumara Parvatha Peak. The fee was Rs 425 per head earlier. Separate deposit is required to be paid for the plastic water bottles, if you are carring that. You can leave your unwanted baggage at the forest office here. Total Trekking distance for day two, is around 5 hours 30 minutes, out of which the first 3.5 kilometers till Kallu Mantapam, on the Shesha Parvatha, an be trekked in 3 hours 30 minutes. Remaing distance of around 1.5 kilometers can be trekking in another one and a half hours.

Return to the frest office before lunch, to collect to belongings and get refund for the depost given to carry any plastic bottles. Go for the lunch to Bhatta’s House. you can trekk back to the Kumara Parvatha trekkign base after lunch,
