Kollimala is less unexplored and traveled terrain and has a lot of herbs for your health and vigor.
Aagaya Gangai Falls and Masila Falls
Akash Ganga Falls (or Aagaya Gangai Falls or Agaya Gangai Falls) in Kolli Mala
Kolli Malai Hills is home to two prominent waterfalls: Akash Ganga Falls and Masila Falls.
Akash Ganga Falls – To reach Akash Ganga Falls (Aagaya Gangai Falls), visitors must descend about 1,196 steps carved into the hillside. The effort is rewarded by a spectacular sight, as the waterfall plunges dramatically from a height of roughly 300 feet. The splashing waters spray all around, drenching you in a refreshing mist.
Masila Falls – Masila Falls is relatively easy to access and features a gentle cascade dropping from a height of less than 100 feet. The parking area is conveniently located just about 200 metres from the waterfall. Visitors will also find separate toilet facilities for men and women, along with a dedicated changing room for women, making the visit more comfortable and convenient.
Nearby Attraction to Kolli Malai
There is also a Boathouse, a Botanical garden, and a Cave house. Arappulishwarar Temple is another landmark in Kolli Hills, which is said to have an underground path to the Rasipuram Shiva temple (Rasipuram is a nearby town).
Saint Kaalaangi or Agastya is believed to have mediated in a cave close to the falls. Tamil Shaivite Siddhar named Bogar or Bhogar or Boganathar is also believed to have mediated in a cave here.
Yercaud is a nearby hill station around 89 kilometres from Kollimalai.
Flora & Fauna
Kolli Mala is covered with evergreen forests. Kolli Hills are rich in flora and fauna and is several species of endemic trees and plants exist here. Silver Oak estates are there in plenty. The maximum extent of ‘Shola forest cover in South Indian Eastern Ghats is in Kollimala. Some areas in the lower plains are making way for agriculture and plantations like coffee, tea, fruit orchards, Jackfruit, black pepper, and other spices. Kollimala has many wild animals and reptiles including the endangered Python Molurus.
How Do I Go to Kollimalai or Kolli Hills?
Kolli Hills (Kolli Mala) is a beautiful hill in Namakkal District, Tamilnadu state, India. There are 70 Hair Pin bends on the Ghat road, which takes you to the top of the Kolli Mala.
Bus services are available up to Arappulishwarar Temple. Salem and Namakkal are two nearby major cities. Buses and Taxis are available from both of these cities. Salem Junction is the nearest major railway station to Kolli Hills alias Kollimalai. #Kollihills
