Kiliyur Falls is a beautiful waterfall in Yercaud, near Salem, Tamilnadu state, India. This fall is part of the Shervaroyan hill ranges of Eastern Ghats.
Kiliyur Falls is formed by the overflowing waters of Yercaud Lake, situated atop the Yercaud hill station. Shevaroy hills are the source of water for the lake and the falls. The water from the falls fell into Kiliyur Valley and thus got its name. This fall has a height of 299 feet (91 meters).
This fall offers a breathtaking sight to tourists, especially during and immediately after the monsoon season, when water levels reach the maximum.
You need to trek around two kilometers to reach the falls. 200 steps are there to reach the bottom of the falls. These steps are steep and should be avoided by kids and elderly people. It takes an hour to reach the falls from the nearest road point.
How Do I Go to Kiliyur Falls?
This fall is around 2.5 kilometers from the Yercaud lake, near Salem town in Tamilnadu, India. Yercaud bus station is nearly four kilometers away from the falls.
Roads connect Salem to other parts of the country. Salem Junction railway station is the nearest railway station to the falls, and it takes around 35 to 40 minutes to reach the falls from the Salem City railway station.
Even though there is a small airport at Salem with IATA code SXV and ICAO code VOSM, currently, there are no commercial flights from this airport. Coimbatore Airport is the nearest operational airport. Chennai airport is the closest major international airport to the falls at Yercaud.
You can go to the falls during the daytime. There are no shops near the falls. Hence, you are advised to carry the required food and water.
