Jatayupara is a large rock block at Chadayamangalam in Kollam district, Kerala state. Jatayupara got its name from Jatayu, the mythical bird in the great epic of Ramayana. Jatayu is believed to have collapsed on this rock after failing in its attempts to thwart Sita’s kidnapping by Ravana. Ravana is believed to have slit Jadayu’s wing(s) and escaped with Sita to Lanka.
