About Inderkilla National Park
Inderkilla National Park is in Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh, India. Spread over an area of 104 square kilometres or 40 sq miles, it is home for many eare mammals like brown bears and black bears, leopards, snow leopards, Himalayan tahr, Himalayan Ibex, Musk deer, and various other mountain deers and goats. More than 250 species of birds have been found in this park. Endangered species like the Himalayan griffo are also seen here.
Inderkilla National Park is made up of hilly terrains and dense woods. It is a perfect destination for hiking, trekking, etc. Beas River flows through this national park. Rafting and fishing are also popular among the tourists. Camping, snowboarding and heli-skiing are some of the other activities. Birding is also done here.
An area of 47.2 square kilometers around the park, ranging from 469 meters to 2.125 kilometers from the national park border wad declared as Inderkila National Park Eco-sensitive Zone in 2018 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Goverment of India, based on the state goverment’s recommendations.
Activities Around the National Park
Hampta Valley Trekking and Mountaineering is also preferred by many tourists. Jobra near Manali, is the start point for the trekkers.You can drive upto this point. Maple forests welcomes you en route. Soon you enter open grasslands near Chika. Afterwards you enter the Jwara meadows, in the middle of two valleys intersection. The camp site is Balu Ka Ghera, just touching the snowline. You can see the Hampta Pass, right in front of you and trek through this pass., with mountains on both sides. Beas river passes through one side. Once you cross the pass, you reach the Kullu side. Then comes the Spiti. October and November are the ideal months for trekking.
Chandratal trek is also possible from here , if climate conditions are good and the path is accessable.
How Do I Go to Inderkilla National Park?
Hampta Valley in upper area of Kullu, near the famous hill station of Manali. is the entry point to Inderkilla National Park. Villages such as Sethan, Hamtagarh, Chalet and Prini within the National Park Eco-sensitive Zone. Prini village has the main entrance to this national park. You need to go approximately 4 kilometers from Manali and take a diversion from along the left bank of Beas River, leading to Prini village. Total distance from Manali to Prini Village is approximately 12 kilometers.
Kullu Manali Airport is the nearest airport. Joginder Nagar Railway Station is the nearest one at around 40 kilometers.
10:00 am to 5:00 pm is the timings of the national park.
