Hawa Mahal Palace is a beautiful historic palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The palace name means ‘Palace of the Breeze’ or ‘Palace of Winds’. The Palace is made of red & pink sandstone. This Palace is situated near the City Palace and extends up to the women’s area in the palace complex.
Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh constructed the Palace in 1799 in the form of Lord Krishna‘s crown. Hawa Mahal is one of the historical places to visit in Jaipur city. The structure of Khetri Mahal in Jhunjhunu inspired Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh to construct this historical palace.
The palace is a fusion of the Rajput style of architecture with the Mughal architecture. This Pyramid-shaped palace has a height of 50 feet or 15 meters from its base. The five-story palace is designed like a honeycomb with 953 small windows decorated with intricate latticework. The idea behind lattice was that royal ladies could see the everyday life of the city residents without going out. These windows allow cool air to circulate, making the palace feel air-conditioned. Fountains are there in the courtyard. The Colored glassworks enhance the beauty of the Palace when sunlight falls on the glass.
An archaeological museum is there inside the palace complex of HawaMahal. The world-famous Jantar Mantar can also be seen from Hawamahal Palace.
Unit Trust of India has adopted the Hawa Mahal in the last decade for the maintenance of the Palace.
