About Dalma WildLife Sanctuary
Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is an Indian tourist destination near Jamshedpur, in the Jharkhand state of India. These areas are part of the Chhotanagpur plateau.
Dalma Sanctuary is at an altitude of around 3000 feet and has an area of approximately 195 square km. Dalma Wildlife Park is near Chandil town. This Wild-Life Sanctuary was inaugurated by Late Sanjay Gandhi in 1975.
Barking deer, Indian Elephants, Indian grey wolfs, Pangolins, Porcupines, and Sloth bear are the prominent wild animals in the park. Also seen are leopards and tigers. There are many hideouts inside the sanctuary to watch the wild animals in their natural habitat. A significant population of Indian Elephants are seen in this area. Giant squirrels are seen in plenty here. Bamboo pit Vipers and copper headed trinket snakes are among reptiles seen in this sanctuary. Crested serpent Eagle, plum headed parakeets, and paradise flycatchers are some of the birds seen here. A total of 300 plus species of birds, animals and repltiles can be seen here.
The view of Jamshedpur city from the Dalma hills is excellent, and it looks like millions of stars twinkling!
Dalma Hills are famous among trekkers.
There is a Lord Shiva temple inside this wildlife sanctuary. This temple is famous for the Shivratri festival.
How to Reach Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary?
Dalma Wildlife Park is just ten kilometers from Jamshedpur, India’s first planned city, also known as Steel City or TataNagar or Tata.
Dalma Sanctuary is accessable from Jamshedpur. Jamshedpur is on the Tata – Ranchi Highway, on the National Highway No. 33. Dalma wildlife sanctuary runs parallel to the NH-18 .
The nearest railway station to Dalma Wildlife Park is the Tatanagar Railway Station. Chandil railway station is also near Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary at around 22 kilometers. The nearest airport to Dalma Wild-Life Sanctuary is the Sonari Airport at Jamshedpur. Ranchi City is around 100 kilometer away.
Where to Stay?
You can stay at the forest department’s Guesthouse on the Dalma hilltop. You must book rooms at the Forest Range Office, Jamshedpur, near Payal Talkies Cinema Theater.
There is another Guesthouse from Tata Steel, a leading group company of Tata Group, an Indian multinational conglomerate.
Note: October to June is the ideal month to visit Dalma Wild-Life Sanctuary.
