BajranGarh Fort is an old fort situated in the Guna District of Madhya Pradesh state in India. BajranGarh Fort is also known as Jharkon. The once bustling garrison is now in ruins. Still, its bastions look majestic.
Situated at an altitude of 303 feet, it is on the banks of the Chapet River. Bajrangarh Fort was constructed around 1600 AD by Yadav (Ahir) King Jai Narayan of the Nandvanshi Branch of the Gagron princely state. It later became part of RaghoGarh state.
The fort was attacked in 1816 A.D. during Raja Jai Singh’s reign. Maharaja Daulat Rao Sindhia of Gwalior state sent his General, John Baptiste, to attack the fort. After Raja Jai Singh was defeated, this fort was destroyed.
The Jharkon fort had four gates in four directions. Moti Mahal, Ram Mandir, Rangmahal, and Bajrang Mandir are still intact inside the fort.
Near the Gunnery inside the fort premises, there is a stepwell that was used for storing drinking water for the horses.
There is also an ancient temple inside the fort, which is believed to have been built in 1775 by the Maratha rulers. This temple is called Bisbhuji temple.
Chanderi Sarees (Chanderi Silk Cotton Sarees and Pure Silk Sarees ) are made in this region. Chanderi silk is costly and used in weaving Khalats (long-sleeved outer silk robes).
