This Mahadeva Temple is believed to have been built by the Cholas. Made of rocks, this temple is rectangular. The temple is built in traditional Kerala Architectural style. Beautiful scenes from the Hindu Epics are carved in the temple. This temple is one of the 74 Lord Shiva temples constructed during the Chola regime.
This Mahadeva Temple is under the Cochin Devaswom Board administration.
The Lord Shiva idol is around four feet in height. The idol is depicted as ‘Kiratamoorthy’ (God Shiva as a hunter) in a pleasing mood. Unlike other temples, ‘Darshan’ (the viewing of deity) is from the southern side.
Hymns and stories from epics are written in the Tamil Language at the backside of this ancient temple. “Dhara” is the main offertory here in this historic temple.
