Dhuandhar Falls is a beautiful waterfall on River Narmada, with a height of 30 meters (98 feet) at Bhedaghat in Jabalpur district, Madhya Pradesh state, India.
This fall got its name from the two Hindi words Dhuan and Dhar. Dhuan means smoke, and Dhar means to flow. Dhuandhar Falls looks like smoke flowing out of a large chimney.
The falls and surrounding areas are covered with marble rocks. You can see artisans making different sculptures with marbles. Among the sculptures are Marble idols of Lord Shiva. These are on display here and can be bought, if interested.
Boat riding is available on the Narmada River at the Bheda Ghat Marble Rocks boating area. They charge you for a minimum period of half an hour. You may also hire private boats here. A boat ride through the river with marble rocks and cliffs on the sides is very scenic. A cable car is also there for those interested in having an Ariel view of the falls.
The falls and surrounding areas were locations for many movies, especially Bollywood movies (Hindi movies).
Chausath Yogini Temple
Chausath Yogini temple is a nearby famous temple on a hilltop, with around 150 steps. It is one of the four Chausath Yogini temples in India.
There are 95 shrines in this temple. Goddess Durga and her consort, Lord Shiva along with 64 female attendants of Goddess Durga are the main deities here. 64 shrines for the 64 attendants are circularly inside the temple. (Chausath is a Hindi word, which means 64. Yogini means female attendant).
Chausath temple here was built in the 10th century AD by Kalachuri kings and resembles the medieval Khajuraho temples in structure.
How Do I Go to Dhuandhar Falls?
Dhuandhar Falls is easily accessible by bus services from Jabalpur. You may also hire a cab or auto-rickshaw to go to these magnificent falls. Jabalpur is around 30 kilometers from the falls at Bheda Ghat.
Jabalpur Junction railway station is a major railway station in India, which is well connected to all major metro cities of India. Jabalpur Airport (JLR) which is also known as Dumna Airport is around 20 kilometers distance from the city center.
Jabalpur is well connected by roads to other parts of the country. NH 7 and NH 12 are the national highways connecting this city with the rest of India.

Wow the waterfalls look really stunning. I must visit them!
That’s a very beautiful waterfalls indeed. And you can actually feel the power by just looking at it. Is whitewater kayaking allowed there? That would definitely be fun!
Whitewater kayaking is not there. Larger boats are available for hire for boating.
We have been planning to visit Dhuandhar falls at Bhedeghat. I believe the marble rocks are stunning. Do they go near the rapids too or is it a gentle boat ride? What time of the year is most recommended for a visit?
You can’t go close to the rapids, but the stunning marble rocks on the sides of river is really s sight to be seen. Its better to go there after the onset of monsoon.
