Amber Fort & Palace

Jaipur Amer Fort  is also known as ‘Amer ka kila’ in Hindi language. The fort was constructed by Raja Man Singh I. It is the biggest tourist attraction in Jaipur and is part of Golden Triangle India Tour Package covering Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

Jaipur Amber Fort & Palace overlooks a lake on one side. Jaipur Amer Fort is an opulent multistory palace complex built with red sandstone and Rajasthan marbles with magnificent ramparts, cobbled paths, small steps leading to different rooms and floors,  water cascade within the palace through which water flows to make the palace cool, roof top garden, etc, which makes it a wonderful tourist spot in Jaipur. The palace has 4 courtyards.

Jaigarh fort is a nearby fort, which is connected to Amber fort by an underground passage, which was used primarily as an escape route in times of war.

Jaipur Amber Fort protects the Amber palace from enemies. A small road connects the palace and the fort to the main road.

You can enter the palace from Ganesh Gate. A temple is there which is dedicated to Sila Devi, goddess of the Chaitanya cult. The palace and nearby hills are surrounded by the magnificent fort, which is a delight to your eyes.

Jal Mahal Palace

Before the Amber fort’s main entry arch gate, is the Jal Mahal meaning water palace. This palace is situated on the Man Sagar Lake. The five storied palace built with built red sandstone in Rajput style of architecture, has its bottom floors submerged in water. Few floors stands above water. When the lake becomes full to its capacity, only the top floor (5th Floor) stands above water. There is a roof top garden on the terrace. This palace was used by the kings during summer months, to escape from the heat waves of Rajasthan.

City Palace & Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum

City Palace where the Erstwhile Royal family currently resides and the adjoining  Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum are worth visiting. This museum gives you an idea of the past, when the kingdom was ruled by Royals. Durbar Hall with painting, Throne room, Royal Vintage Cars, Armory including Cannons, Massive Jars used to carry water on the ship when king went on a voyage to England and may other royal belongings are on display here. Pportraits  of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II to Maharaja Jagat Singh, successive Maharajas of Jaipur kingdom are on display here.

Jaipur Archeology Sites and Museums issue tickets for each destination at the entry gates. If you plan to visit all those historic places, it may be cost-effective to buy the composite tickets, which is valid for 2 days.

How Do I Go to Jaipur Amer Fort?

Jaipur is well connected by roads, train and flights to the rest of the country. The Amer Fort and Palace is just 20 minutes drive from the city center. Cabs are available at Jaipur which takes you to the fort. There is a small entry fee of Rs 50, to enter the palace. Amer town is having an area of approximately 4 square kilometers.

There are many good hotels in Jaipur, which caters to the large number of tourists to the Pink city. There are many star rated hotels. Hotel Sarang Palace, Heritage hotel and a 3 star hotel, is a leading hotel in Jaipur offering best hotel deals at a distance of 1 kilometer from the Jaipur central bus stand and the Jaipur railway station. Cheap hotels are also there in the city, for those who are budget conscious.

There is a haunted city which was once famous for the  Indian culture and heritage, near to Jaipur, at 75 kilometers distance in Alwar district.

Annapurna Rasoi Scheme – Cheap Food from Goverment

Goverment of Rajasthan has launched a scheme  to provide cheap and quality food at subsidized rates to the general public. Its available on Mobile Kitchen Vans, parked near to hospitals, railway station, bus stations, etc. Breakfast is priced at just Rs.5 and Lunch and dinner costs rupees 8 each. Annapurna Rasoi Scheme was launched in 12 districts of the state in December 2016.
