Lonavla Hill Station is most beautiful during the rainy season, starting in June, when the whole area becomes green with its magnificent falls and lakes.

Lonavla Hill Station and nearby Khandala Hill Station are adjacent twin hill stations in the Sahyadri ranges of Western Ghats. They have become a place for weekend getaways for Mumbai and Pune residents.

There are many tourist places in and around the twin hill stations of Lonavla and Khandala. There are three caves, namely Karli caves or Karla caves, Bhaja caves, and Bedsa caves. Lonavla Hill Station has two fortresses, Lohagad and Visapur. Tungi Fort is another tourist spot.

Rajmachi Point is a major tourist attraction six and a half kilometers from Lonavala.  Shivaji’s famous fort, Rajmachi, can be viewed from this point. Ryewood Park & Shivaji Udyan is a major park with many trees and playgrounds for children. Valvan Dam, two kilometers down Lonavla,  is a dam that supplies water to the power-generating turbines at the Khopoli power station. Lonavla Lake is another attraction one and a half kilometers away, which dries in winter. Duke’s Nose, at 12 kilometers, is a cliff on the way to Lonavala.

How Do I Go to the Honeymoon Destination, Lonavala?

Lonavla, a Honeymoon Destination and a Hill Station, is on the Mumbai – Pune expressway.

Lonavla is a major railway station where all trains stop on the Mumbai – Pune railway line. The trains coming from Mumbai will stop at Karjat, the station before Lonavla, and a second engine is added to pull the train through the steep western ghats to reach Lonavala, where the extra engine is removed, and the train continues its journey from here with the regular single-engine.

The nearest airport is Pune International Airport, 64 kilometers away. Mumbai Chhatrapati Sivaji International Airport is 104 kilometers away. The nearby city of Aamby Valley has a private airport.
