Kali Tiger Reserve for White Water River Rafting

Kali Tiger Reserve or Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve is in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka state, India. Kali River flows through this Tiger reserve and hence got its name. Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary was formed in 1956. Anshi National Park was formed in 1987, west of the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. Final notification of Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and Anshi National Park was made in 1998 and 2003 respectively. In 2007, both were combined to form Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve or Kali Tiger Park.

The park is part of the Western Ghats. It lies at an altitude of 200 to 925 meters above sea level. Meandering rivers, pristine mountains, and deep valleys make this wildlife park a paradise for nature lovers. This park was declared endangered by the World Wide Fund for Nature to protect it from further damage.

It is rich in Flora and Fauna. Spread over an area of 1300 square kilometers, Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve is home to Royal Bengal Tigers, Indian elephants, black panthers, Golden cats, Leopard cats, Leopards, Black Panther, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Barking deer, Mouse deer, Elephant, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Lories, Langoor, Indian Giant Squirrel, Pangolin, etc.

A total of 270 bird species, of which 19 are endemic birds, are seen here. It is one of the best birding sites in Karnataka state.

This tiger reserve is a Project Tiger Reserve in India, a project by the Indian government to save Bengal tigers.

Black panthers can only be spotted here, in the whole of Asia.

Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve is famous for bird watching, kayaking, white water river rafting, trekking, nature camps, and wilderness. White water rafting adventures are rare in India, and one such rare site is the Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve.  It offers one of the cheapest river rafts available anywhere in India.

Kavala Cave Kavaleshwar Temple is another attraction in this Tiger Reserve.

How Do I Go To Kali Tiger Reserve or Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary?

Kali Project Tiger Reserve is accessible from Dandeli town. This tiger reserve and wildlife sanctuary is close to the Kanwar – Londa, Karnataka State Highway Number 6.

Alnavar is the nearest railway station to Dandeli town, at around 32 kilometers away. Londa, Dharwar, and Hubli are other major nearby railway stations to Kali Tiger Park.

Karwar city, the district headquarters, is at a distance of around 105 kilometers. Karwar railway station on the Konkan railway line is the nearest railway station. Hubli Airport is the nearest airport to the Kali Project Tiger Reserve, around 78 kilometers away.
