Gokak Falls resembles Niagara Falls on a smaller scale. The falls at Gokak leap 171 feet (52 meters), over a sandstone cliff amidst a picturesque gorge of the rugged valley. During the monsoon season, the roar of the falls can be heard from a long distance. A hanging bridge is there across the river, about 200 meters or 659 feet, at 46 feet (14 meters) above the rock bed, offering a breathtaking view of the falls.

There was an electricity generation station, which was started in 1887 and was abandoned later. It is believed to be India’s first hydroelectric power station.

This fall got its name from the Goki trees found in abundance in these areas.
