Ethipothala Falls

Ethipothala Falls is near Guntur in the Palnadu district of Andhra Pradesh state of India. It is a 70-foot-high cascade on the Chandravanka River, a tributary of the Krishna River. This fall joins the Krishna River below the Nagarjuna Sagar dam at three kilometers from the falls. This fall is also spelled as Etipotala Falls and Ettipothala Falls.

Ethipothala Falls is formed as a result of 3 streams joining here. These three streams are Chandravanka Vagu, Nakkala Vagu, and Tummala Vagu. As there are three streams, this waterfall is also known as Triveni Sangamam. Triveni Sangamam is usually the confluence of 3 water bodies: seas, rivers, or streams.

There is a strategic viewpoint opposite the falls on an adjacent hillock, which gives a clear, beautiful view of the falls.

Water is released from the Nagarjuna Sagar dam’s right bank canal to these falls to keep the waterfall alive throughout the year. This is done for tourism purposes.

Near the bottom of the fall, there is a Crocodile breeding center. The water from this waterfall falls into this crocodile breeding center on the pond below the falls.

There is a God Datttemple temple in this area. Lambadi Tribal people workshop God Datttemple. Hence, this temple has a vast spiritual significance among the locals. Prayers and “Sevas” are offered to Lord Datttemple. Seva is the practice of selfless service among Hindus and Sikhs.

How Do I Go to Ethipothala Falls?

This fall is at a distance of 11 kilometers from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. Guntur town is around 134 kilometers from these beautiful falls.

There are trains from all parts of India to the Guntur Junction railway station.  The station code for the Guntur Junction railway station is GNT.

Vijayawada Airport is the nearest airport to the falls, around 192 kilometers away. This fall is around 176 kilometers away from Hyderabad and Vijayawada cities.
