Understand the Background of Chikmagalur Hill Station

Chikmagalur Hill station is a beautiful hill station situated at an altitude of around 3,580 feet above mean sea level, in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka state, India.

Chikmagalur means ‘younger daughter’s town’ in local language, Kannada. Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in the state of Karnataka. It  is located at around 12 kilometers distance from the town. The spectacular view of the Sunset from the Mullayanagiri peak is a must-see for any tourist.

There is a small temple (tomb) at the summit, dedicated to a Tapasvi “Mulappa swamy”, who is believed to have meditated at the caves a couple of feet below the summit. The caves were open to the public till a few years ago. It has direct access to the tomb of the temple. It is now blocked by the temple.

This hill station is located near to Chikkamagalur alias Chikkamagaluru Town, which is well connected to other parts of the country.

Kadur railway station is at around 40 kilometers distance and is the nearest railway station to the hills. ‘Birur Junction’ railway station with station code ‘RRB’, is another nearby railway station, at around 48 kilometers distance from Chikkamagalur.

Chikkamagaluru is at a distance of around 62 kilometers from Hassan. It is at a distance of  148 kilometers from Mangalore and 178 kilometers from Mysore, respectively. Bangalore to Chikmagalur distance is around 250 kilometers and is connected by National Highway 173.
