Chausath Yogini Temple

Chausath Yogini Temple is an ancient Lord Shiva temple believed to be constructed in 1323 AD, situated at Morena district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. This temple is also known as Ekattarso Mahadeva Temple.

Ekattarso Mahadeva temple was built by the Kachchhapaghata king Devapala (1055-1075 CE). The temple has 64 chambers and an open mandapam (hall) in the center. A circular courtyard separates the chambers and the hall. 100 steps lead to the entrance of the temple. The central hall or shrine has slab coverings with perforations so that rainwater drains to a large underground storage area. The pipelines from the rooftop are connected to this area.-Ekattarso Mahadeva Temple is situated on top of a small hill, which is around 100 feet in height.

It is believed that Chausath Yogini Temple is the inspiration for the Indian Parliament’s architecture.

Ekattarso Mahadeva Temple is believed to be used for providing education in the fields of astrology and mathematics based on the movement of the Sun.
