Yamunotri is the origin of holy river Yamuna. Yamunotri is considered as the seat of Hindu Goddess Yamuna. It is situated at an altitude of 10,804 feet or 3,293 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas.

There are two trekking routes to the holy place. One route is by trekking 13 kilometers from Hanuman Chatti. The second route is from Janki Chatti and the distance by this route is around 6 kilometers. Trekking route passes through many rivers and rivulets. Crossing Ruinsara Tal, a clear water lake at the foot of Mount Kalanag, takes you to the holy Shrine.

Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and Sanctuary

Govind national park or Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and Sanctuary as it is known officially, is situated in Uttarakhand state, India. The national park and wildlife sanctuary is named after Govind Ballabh Pant, who was the Indian home Minister in 1950’s. Har-ki-dun valley, a famous trekking destination, is situated inside this park.

Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and Sanctuary is a Snow leopard habitat located on the higher reaches of the Garhwal Himalayas. Snow leopard, an endangered species, is the highlight of Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. Snow Leopard Project is being implemented here by the Indian Government. The National park is one of the remaining strongholds of the Near threatened bird species, Bearded vulture.

The park is rich in flora and Fauna. There are 150 bird species or so in this national park. Some of the other endangered species of birds found in this park are golden eagle, steppe eagle, black eagle, Himalayan monal pheasant, Himalayan snowcock, western tragopan, cheer pheasant, etc.

Govind National Park is located at a distance of 17 kilometers from Dharkadhi town. Dehradun is the nearest railway station and airport to Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and Sanctuary at around 190 kilometers away.
