Hawa Mahal Palace -The Palace of the Breeze

Hawa Mahal Palace is a beautiful historic palace in Jaipur city, Rajasthan, India. The palace name means ‘Palace of the Breeze’ or ‘Palace of Winds’. The Palace is made of red & pink sandstone. This Palace is situated near to the City Palace and extends up to the women’s area in the palace complex.

Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh constructed the Palace in 1799 in the form of Lord Krishna‘s crown. Hawa Mahal is a one among the historical places to visit in Jaipur city. Structure of Khetri Mahal in Jhunjhunu, inspired Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh to construct this historical palace.

The palace is a fusion of Rajput style of architecture with the Mughal architecture. This Pyramid shaped palace has a height of 50 feet or 15 meters from its base. The 5 storey palace is designed like a honeycomb with 953 small windows which are decorated with intricate lattice work. The idea behind lattice was that royal ladies can see everyday life of the city residents, without going out. These windows allows cool air to circulate, making the palace feel like air-conditioned. Fountains are there in the courtyard. The Colored glass works on enhances the beauty of the Palace when sun light falls on the glass.

An archaeological museum is there inside the palace complex of HawaMahal. The world famous Jantar Mantar can also be seen from Hawamahal palace.

Unit Trust of India has adopted Hawa Mahal in the last decade for maintenance of the Palace.

If you are lucky, you can see the Near Threatened or endangered leopards in these forests during day time. Many tourists have reportedly seen the Clouded leopards near the Devgiri Cave Temple. You can go for a Jungle Safari (Jeep Safari), to spot these wild cats.

The forests around the dam are home to many migratory birds during winter season.

The Dam is the biggest dam in Western Rajasthan. It was constructed by Jodhpur King, Umaid Singh. The Dam construction works were started in 1946 and was completed by 1957.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah Alias Ajmer Sharif, is an international waqf.

Moinuddin Chishti (1141 – 1236) was born in the area which is presently in Afghanistan and Iran. He established the Chishti Order of Sufism in the Indian subcontinent. As a child, he spent his time praying and meditating. He disposed of his properties and donated that to the poor. He is also known as Gharib Nawaz (Benefactor of the Poor).

Moinuddin Chishti has visited most of the Muslim places of culture, including Mecca and Medina. Later on, he reached this town and settled there. Chishti worked for Muslims and non-Muslim co-operation. Mughal emperors of India were followers of Chishti.

Chishti Order was established in the city of Chisht in present-day Afghanistan by Abu Ishaq Shami. Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti was his follower and established the Chishti Order of Sufism in India.

Syed Zainul Abedin, a direct descendant of Moinuddin Chishti (22nd generation) , currently heads Sharif Dargah. Being Dargah Dewan (Dewan of Dargah), he also heads Chishti order of Sufism.
