Jeep Safari in Buxa Tiger Reserve & Trekking Inside Buxa National Park

Buxa Tiger Reserve is a Project Tiger reserve inside the Buxa National Park in Alipurduar district of West Bengal state in India, along the international border with Bhutan.

Tiger, Elephant, Indian Boar, Gaur (Indian bison), Civet, Red jungle fowl, etc., are found in large numbers at Buxa National Park, spread over 760 square kilometers.

Jungle safari is available in this Tiger park. Jeep Safari and Car Safari are allowed inside the Buxa National Park. You need to get permission from the Forest Office situated at Rajabhatkhawa or Jayanti. Trekking for 3.9 kilometers is allowed inside the Tiger Reserve and National Park from Santhalbari. The trekking tour takes around one hour and fifteen minutes. There is another trekking tour route covering 13 kilometers to Jayanti via Mahakal Cave through dense forests. There are a few other trekking tour routes also. The most popular trekking tour route is ‘Pagsamkha Path Trekking‘ from Buxa Fort to Raimatung via Aadma.

This Tiger park is rich in flora and Fauna. Bird species numbering around 284 are found here. 76 Snake species, five amphibian species, 73 mammal species, 450 species of trees, 400 species of herbs, 100 species of grass,150 species of orchids, 130 species of aquatic flora, and 250 species of shrubs are found in Buxa National Park and Tiger Reserve.

Buxa Fort is associated with the Indian freedom struggle. It is at an altitude of 867 meters. Renovation and restoration of the Buxa fort were completed in 2022.

Endangered Species in Buxa Tiger Reserve

Indian tiger (Bengal Tiger), Bengal florican, Asian elephant, leopard cat, regal python, Chinese pangolin, hispid hare, Hog deer, lesser adjutant (Leptoptilos javanicus), chestnut breasted partridge (Arborophila mandellii), great hornbill, white-rumped vulture (Gyps bengalensis), slender-billed vulture (Gyps tenuirostris), rufous necked hornbill (Aceros nipalensis), Ferruginous pochard (Aythya nyroca), etc., are some the Endangered species found in this tiger reserve.

How Do I Go to Buxa Tiger Reserve or Buxa National Park?

Alipurduar is the nearest town to the National Park, around 35 kilometers away. NH 31 is at a distance of 25 kilometers distance from the Tiger Reserve. Alipur Duar town and Rajabhatkhawa town are 20 kilometers away. The nearest airport is Bagdogra, around 195 kilometers away.

The nearest Railway Station is Alipurduar Junction alias New Alipurduar, 37 kilometers away. NH 31 C runs along the southern boundary of the Tiger Reserve.

Is Accommodation Available Inside the Tiger Reserve?

There are many hotels and resorts at Alīpur Duar near the Tiger Reserve. The tiger reserve has the forest department’s Inspection Bungalows. Sometimes, it is open to tourists to stay there. They are not interested in Tourism activities, as it harms the beasts of the Jungle.
