Dhoni Falls – Waterfalls in Kerala with the Great Cricketer Dhoni’s name

Dhoni Falls is a beautiful waterfall in Dhoni Hills, at around 15 kilometers distance from Palakkad town in Kerala, India.

Dhoni hills is very popular among the trekking community. Dhoni Falls can be reached by trekking around 4 kilometers from the bottom of the Dhoni hills. These Hills are part of Western Ghats. As the hills are part of reserve forests, you need to get the entry pass from the Kerala Forest department by paying a fee of INR 100.

The road to the falls is not laid well. The area is rich for its wildlife. Nilgiri langur, Leopard, sloth bear, Hanuman langur, bonnet macaqu, etc, are some among those found in the hills. Malabar whistling thrush is a beautiful bird found here.

Dhoni Falls is a beautiful fall and you are allowed to take bath in the falls.

Shiva Temple is a nearby tourist place worth visiting on your trekking trip to Dhoni hills. A Colonial mansion, believed to be built in 1857 by the British, is seen on your way to the top of the hills.

How Do I Go to Dhoni Falls?

Dhoni Road, the bottom of the hills from where you need to start your trekking to the falls, is at a distance of 12 kilometers from Palakkad. Palakkad railway station is the nearest major railway station. Coimbatore international airport is at around 80 kilometers distance from the Dhoni hills. Dhoni Falls is at a distance of 34 kilometers away from Kollengode village near Palakkad.

The ideal season to visit the falls is after the onset on Monsoon rains.

Jeep Safari in Buxa Tiger Reserve & Trekking Inside Buxa National Park

Buxa Tiger Reserve is a ‘Project tiger’ reserve inside the Buxa National Park at Alipurduar district of West Bengal state in India along the international border with Bhutan.

Tiger, Elephant, Indian Boar, Gaur (Indian bison), Civet, Red jungle fowl, etc, are found in large numbers at Buxa National Park, spread over an area of 760 square kilometers.

Jungle safari is available in this Tiger park. Jeep Safari and Car Safari is allowed inside the Buxa National Park. You need to get permission from the Forest Office situated at Rajabhatkhawa or Jayanti. Trekking of 3.9 kilometers is allowed inside the Tiger reserve and National Park from Santhalbari. Trekking tour takes around one hour and fifteen minutes. There is another trekking tour route covering 13 kilometers to Jayanti via Mahakal Cave through dense forests. There are few other trekking tour routes also. The most popular trekking tour route is ‘Pagsamkha Path Trekking‘ from Buxa Fort to Raimatung, via Aadma.

The Buxa Tiger Reserve and National park is rich in flora and Fauna. Birds species numbering around 284 are found here. 76 Snake species, 5 amphibians species, 73 mammal species, 450 species of trees, 400 species of herbs, 100 species of grass ,150 species of orchids, 130 species of aquatic flora and 250 species of shrubs are found in Buxa National Park and Tiger reserve.

Buxa Fort is associated with the Indian freedom struggle. Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple is situated inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve.

Endangered Species in Buxa Tiger Reserve

Indian tiger (Bengal Tiger), Bengal florican, Asian elephant, leopard cat, regal python, Chinese pangolin, hispid hare, Hog deer, lesser adjutant (Leptoptilos javanicus), chestnut breasted partridge (Arborophila mandellii), great hornbill, white rumped vulture (Gyps bengalensis), slender billed vulture (Gyps tenuirostris), rufous necked hornbill (Aceros nipalensis), Ferruginous pochard (Aythya nyroca), etc, are some the Endangered species found in Buxa Tiger Reserve.

How Do I Go to Buxa Tiger Reserve or Buxa National Park ?

Alipurduar is the nearest town to Buxa National Park at around 35 kilometers away. NH 31 is at a distance of 25 kilometers distance from the Tiger reserve. Alipur duar town and Rajabhatkhawa town are at 20 kilometers away. Nearest Airport is at the one at Bagdogra, at around 195 kilometers away.

Nearest Railway Station is Alipurduar Junction alias New Alipurduar at 37 kilometers away. NH 31 C runs along the southern boundary of the Tiger reserve.

Is Accommodation Available Inside Buxa Tiger Reserve?

There are many hotels and resorts at Alīpur Duar near Buxa Tiger Reserve. Buxa Tiger Reserve has forest department’s Inspection Bungalows, which sometimes allows visitors to stay there. They are not interested in Tourism activities, as it harms the beasts of the Jungle.
