Parambikulam tiger reserve is tiger reserve in Nelliampathy – Anamalai region on the Western Ghats in Palakkad district, Kerala state, India.

Parambikulam tiger reserve was earlier known as Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary. Its a Tiger reserve under ‘Project Tiger‘, a project to save Bengali Tiger, the national animal of India. Apart from Tigers, the beats of this jungle includes Wild Boar, Sambar, Gaur, Panthers, etc,. There are a large number of Elephants in this reserved forests.

The tree houses inside the tiger reserve allows great view of the wildlife from vantage points. There are watch towers at Anappadi and Zungam, inside the Tiger reserve.

Parambikulam tiger reserve is spread over an area of 643.66 Square kilometers. This Wild life sanctuary is rich in peninsular flora and fauna, which are well conserved, due to minimal human interference.

Parambikulam tiger reserve is situated close to Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary. Parambikulam is one among the very few sanctuaries that allows trekking within the park. You need to take prior permission from the forest department office at Anappadi.

Parambikulam Dam, the number one embankment dam India in terms of its volume and one among the top 10 such dams in the world, is situated within the Tiger reserve. Thunakadavu Dam and Peruvaripallam Dam are two other dams within this Tiger reserve.

Parambikulam tiger reserve is at around 95 kilometers distance from Coimbatore, The entry point to Sanctuary is situated at Anappadi. The history of this town dates back to the mid eighteenth century when the area was planted with coffee by Ramasamy Mudaliyar in 1846. W Wintil and Nordan, assisted the well known Planter Carwer Marsh and plated coffee and tea in these hills  in the year 1890. Carwer Marsh is known as “The Father of Anamalais” and his statue is there in the Kavarkal Estate, Valparai.

Those who likes to go for an adventurous  or looking for nature at its best,  can go to Aathirapalli falls near Chalakudi in the nearby Kerala state. This magnificent falls is at a distance of 130 kilometers from this hill station. Road travel through this route is possible only during the day, between 9 am and 6 pm.

Forest department will record the entry time and you need to complete the journey through the forest road within the specified time. The journey takes up to 4 hours! You are not allowed to stop en-route.

This route is one of the best routes in India, for those looking for nature, scenery, wildlife, etc. The area around this road is home to many wild animals, which you may be able to spot on your journey through this road though the dense forests.

How Do I Go to Valparai Hill Station

This hill Station town is at a distance of around 100 kilometers from Coimbatore in Tamilnadu. Pollachi town is at a distance of 65 kilometers from Valparai. It takes around one and a half hours drive from Pollachi to reach Valaprai hills.

This beautiful hill station is connected by ghat road to other parts of the country. There are 40 hair pin bends on the road to the top of the hills. Aliyar Dam and its catchment areas can be as seen from hairpin bend number 9, which is a beautiful sight.

Coimbatore Junction, with railway station code CBE, is the nearest convenient railway station for a tourist to this hills. Coimbatore airport is the nearest airport to Valparai hill station.
