Thousands and thousands of devotees and sadhus (sages) take holy dip at this holy place, in January each year, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. It is believed that Parashuram washed away the sins of killing Kshatriyas in the waters of Brahma kund (The reason for the killings was that Kshatriyas killed Prashuram’s father and waged a war against Brahmins) .

The site of the Parashuram Kund, as established by the great sadhu Parashuram, was in existence till 1950. The old site was completely damaged by the great earthquake that shook the whole of North-Eastern states of India that time. The Parashuram kund was completely covered. A very strong current is now flowing over the original site of the kund and another kund is now in place of the old one. (kund means small reservoir where water is stored.)
