Mahabaleshwar the Summer Capital of Bombay Province is in the Sahyadri range of Satrana District in Maharatatra, India. It was the summer capital of Bombay province during the British rule in India.

6 kilometers north of the main city at Old Kshetra Mahabaleshwar is the Mahabaleshwar Temple. This temple was built during the 16th century by the ‘Chanda Rao More dynasty’. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Self-created ‘Swayambhu’ lingam in the shape of Rudraksha known as Mahalingam is enshrined within the sanctum sanctorum. The temple has a square shaped raised paltform in which the the great Maratha ruler, Shivaji weighed his mother with gold here and then gave away the gold to charity.

Wai is a popular hill station nearby, on your way to Mahabaleshwar, which is famous location for Hindi film shootings.
