Ramparts with 5 gates separates the town from the plains. There are two theories that revolve around this town.

One version goes like this.  Bhangarh is cursed by Guru Balu Nath, the person who sanctioned the construction of the town. He set a condition. If the shadows of the palaces touch me, the city shall be no more. Once a princess extended the height and thus the city was devastated.

There is a second story which goes like this. A tantrik called Singhia (Magician specialized in black magic) who fell in love with the beautiful Princess of Ratnavati of Bhangarh. He came to know that the princess is showered with marriage offers.Knowing that it is becoming impossible to marry the princess, he tried his black magic on the oil, that the princess’ maid purchased from the market. The plan was that the princess would surrender herself to him after touching the oil. Princess Ratnavati somehow realized the plan. She spoiled the plan of the tantrik by pouring the oil in the ground. The oil while touching the ground had transformed into a boulder and killed the tantrik. Dying tantrik had cursed that whoever dwelt in the palace will not stay alive.
