There are 70 Hair Pin bends on the Ghat road, which takes you to the top of the Kolli Hills.

Kolli Hills has two main falls; Akash Ganga Falls and Masila Falls. View points at Seekuparai and Selur Nadu offers breathtaking view of the nature’s beauty. Trekking and hiking the Kolli hills is a popular option for those who are adventurous and offers excellent view of the Eastern Ghats. Kollimala is less unexplored and traveled terrain and has lot of herbs for your health and vigour.

There is also a Boat house, Botanical garden and a Cave house. Arappulishwarar Temple is another landmark in Kolli Hills, which is said to have an underground path to the Rasipuram Shiva temple (Rasipuram is a nearby town). Yercaud is a nearby hill station at around 89 kilometers from kollimalai.

Kolli Hills are covered with evergreen forests. Kolli Hills are rich is flora and fauna and is several species of endemic trees and plants exists here. Silver Oak estates are there in plenty. Maximum extent of ‘Shola forest’ cover in South Indian Eastern Ghats is found here in Kollimala. Some areas in the lower plains are making way for agriculture and plantations like coffee, tea, fruit orchards, Jackfruit, black pepper and other spices. Kollimala has a large species of wild animals and reptiles including the endangered Python Molurus.

Chail Hill Station

Chail Hill Station is a beautiful hill station at an average altitude of around 2,226 meters, near to Shimla, in Himachal Pradesh state of India. Chail Hill Station is situated at a higher altitude than Shimla. Chail is one of the most beautiful hill stations in the world.

Chail Hill Station was the summer retreat of Maharajas of Patiala, in the late 18th and 19th century, till Indian Independence. After the accession of his Kingdom to India, the Maharaja has donated most of the buildings in Chail hill station to the Government of India. The Main Palace Complex, currently called The Chail Palace, in around 75 acres of land, is now a Heritage Hotel, under Himachal Pradesh Tourism department.

Bhupinder Singh, Maharaja of Patiala, shifted his summer retreat center to Chail Hill Station after he was denied entry to his erstwhile summer retreat in Shimla, by the British in 1891, due to his rage with Lord Kitchener. Maharaja decided to built a new retreat center and hence built this beautiful hill station retreat. Maharaja of Patiala built many architecturally beautiful buildings in the hill station of Chail .

Chail Hill Station is full of Pine and Deodars trees and the nearby Hill station Kasauli and Hill station Shimla can be viewed from Chail at night. Chail is also well known for hiking.

Chail Hill Station has a beautiful cricket ground, which is considered as the highest cricket ground in the world. The same ground is also used as a polo ground. This ground is situated at an altitude of around 2444 meters above sea level! The same ground is also used for football matches as there are goal posts at a corner portion of the ground for this purpose.

Rastriya Military School at Chail

Maharaja of Patiala has donated one ancient building complex to “Rsatriya Military School”. The cricket ground cum polo ground (mentioned in the earlier paragraph) is now used as the playground for the Rastriya Military School. Rastriya Military School at Chail, which was earlier known as “King George Royal Indian Military School“, is the oldest Military school in India. Rastriya Military School at Chail is one of the best military schools for boys. It is the best military boarding schools, among the five Rastriya Military Schools. The Military school (sainik school in Hindi Lanuage) was designated as a college during the Second World War.

The other 4 military schools in India are at Bangalore, Belgaum, Ajmer & Dholpur. All the five military schools are affiliated to CBSE .

How Do I Go To Chail Hill Station?

Chail Hill Station is at a distance of around 45 to 60 kilometers from Shimala, depending on the route travelled. Shima-Chail via Kufri is around 45 kilometers and Shima-Chail via Kandaghat is 60 kilometers. Kalka hill station is at a distance of 90 kilometers from Chail. There are regular inter-state buses from New Delhi, the capital city of India. Regular buses operate from Shimla to Chail. Chandigarh is at a distance of around 120 kilometers, which has the nearest airport to Chail.

Manali Hill Station is nestled in the mountains of Himalayas in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India.

Manali Hill Station  is 32 kilometers from Kullu valley, 280 kilometers north of capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla. The hill station is situated near to the end of the valley on the National Highway leading to Leh.

Manali is famous for adventure sports like skiing, mountaineering, paragliding, hiking, trekking, rafting. mountain biking and kayaking. Skiing  is a major tourism related activity at the Hill Station. The Beas river, with its clear waters, meanders through the town of Manali.

Manali Hill Station can be visited throughout the year. In winter, i.e. December and January,   the temperature may drop below freezing point.  Heavy woolen clothes are be required during this time of the year.

Domestic tourists comes here mainly for honeymoon and mountain views. Foreigners visit the Hill Station for adventure sports.

Rohtang Pass is the highest point on the Manali-Keylong road. It provides a panoramic view of Himalayan mountains rising far above the clouds, which is truly a breath-taking sight.

Solang Valley  offers the view of the snow capped mountains, the glaciers and the Himalayan  peaks. It has fine ski slopes and many picnic spots.

Rahala waterfalls is a major tourist attraction at 16 kilometers distance from the hill station.

MANU temple, at 2 kilometers distance, is linked to the history of the Hill Station and is a major tourist attraction. Tibetan monasteries at the hill station attracts many a tourists.

How Do I Go to Manali Hill Station?

The nearest airport to Manali is at Bhuntar town, at about 50 kilometers distance. The airport is also known as Kullu-Manali airport.

Chandigarh is the nearest rail head at around 275 kilometers distance on the broad gauge railway line. On the narrow gauge rail-head,  ‘Joginder Nagar’ is at 135 kilometers away. The Hill Station can be reached by road from the above mentioned stations.
