Nohsngithiang Falls

Nohsngithiang Falls, or Seven Sisters Falls, is a beautiful seven-stream waterfall in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya state of India.

This fall is known as Seven Sisters Waterfalls, as the fall is a seven-segmented (seven streams) fall. This fall is also known as Mawsmai Falls, situated in Mawsmai village.

Seven Sisters Falls has a height of 315 meters or 1033 feet. The Falls has an average width of 70 meters, i.e., 230 feet wide, making it the 5th largest waterfall in India. The fall and the nearby valley can be seen from the road and is a beautiful sight.

This fall is not accessible by foot. In other words, you can not go near the falls. However, there is a viewpoint at Mawsmai village. Eco Park is another place to see the falls. One can sum up the experience here as “Nature in one of its best forms!

During the Monsoon season, Nohsngithiang alias Mawsmai Falls plunges over the Khasi Hills limestone cliffs, making it one of the most beautiful falls. During this season, a perennial rainbow is seen around the falls. Monsoon season is the best time to visit this fall.

How Do I Go to Nohsngithiang Falls?

Nohsngithiang alias Mawsmai Falls is at a distance of one kilometer from Mawsmai village.

Shillong, the state capital, is located around 57 kilometers from Mawsmai village and takes around one and a half hours drive.

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, alias Guwahati International Airport in the nearby state of Assam, is the nearest airport to the falls at Mawsmai. It is at a distance of around 160 kilometers from Mawsmai village.

World-famous Mawsmai Caves alias Krem Phyllut is very close to the Mawsmai Falls and takes around 20 minutes to walk from the falls at Mawsmai. Cherrapunjee, one of the wettest places in India, is just 4 kilometers from Nohsngithiang Falls.
