Jaswant Thada – Royal Mausoleum at Jodhpur

Jaswant Thada is a mausoleum in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It is located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. It is known as the Taj Mahal of Marwar or Taj Mahal of Jodhpur.

The mausoleum is built with intricately carved, thin, polished marble sheets. When sunlight falls on the marble, the marble glows, which makes any tourist spellbound.

Jaswant Thada was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh alias Maharaja Sardar Singhji, who reigned from 1895 to 1911. It was built in 1899 in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II alias Maharaja Jaswant Singhjill of Jodhpur, who reigned from 1873 to 1895. Portraits of Jodhpur’s rulers, Marwar Dynasty rulers, are displayed at this mausoleum.

There is a pavilion structure also in the complex, Other than the main cenotaph, there are three more cenotaphs in the same complex. The mausoleum is the Marwar royal family’s cremation ground. The main hall is like a temple, where pujas are conducted in memory of the ancestors. which is common for the Rajput clans.

There is a small lake next to the mausoleum in the same complex. You can see many birds here in the lake and its surroundings.

This mausoleum is situated very close to the Jodhpur Mehrangarh Fort complex. Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park is a nearby park spread over 72 hectares of land and was built in 2006.

How Do I Go to Jaswant Thada?

Jaswant Thada is situated close to the heart of Jodhpur city. You can hire a taxi and get dropped off at the entrance. If you do not mind walking the steep hills, it takes around 25 to 30 minutes of walking.

Jodhpur Junction railway station is a major railway in the city. Jodhpur Airport is the nearest airport to the Mausoleum.
