Dadra and Nagar Haveli is a Union territory in Western India, consisting of 2 different geographical entities; namely Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Nagar Haveli is wedged between Maharashtra state and Gujarat state. Dadra is a smaller area surrounded by Gujarat. Silvassa is the capital city of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Daman Ganga River flows through this union territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli was part of the Portuguese India till 1954. In 1954, residents of Dadra and Nagar Haveli conquered the territory. They requested administrative help from the government of India. An I.A.S. Officer was sent as the administrator, who continued till 1961.

In 1961, Indian military took control of Goa, Daman and Diu; the Portuguese possessions in India. Thereafter, the administrator was temporarily assigned as Prime Mister of Dadra and Nagar Haveli for a single day, to sign an agreement to merge the territory with India. He signed the agreement with Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India. Thus Dadra and Nagar Haveli became part of India as a Union Territory.

In 1974, a formal treaty was singed by India and Portugal to confirm the sovereignty of India over Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The union territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli is having an area of 491 square kilometers. Dadra and Nagar Haveli is rich in Flora and fauna. Nearly 40 per cent of the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli is covered by reserved forests. Its a paradise for the wildlife enthusiasts.

Vapi railway station in Gujarat is at around 18 kilometers distance from Silvassa, the capital city of the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Khandala hill station is located on the Bhor Ghat, which lies in between the Konkan plains and the Deccan Plateau.

This hill station is famous for hiking to Duke’s Nose, which offers excellent view of Khandala and Bhor Ghats. Tiger’s Leap is a tourist spot which appear as a tiger leaping into the valley. Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary is the first wildlife sanctuary in Maharashtra established in 1958 as Dajipur Wildlife Sanctuary . Its also known as Bison Sanctuary, as Indian bison alias Gaur (Bos gaurus) numbering around 1091 were seen here as per 2014 count . It is situated at the southern end of the Sahyadri hills, the Western Ghats. Its a natural World Heritage Site notified by UNESCO as Sahyadri sub cluster of Western Ghats. for category ix and x.

Chandoli National Park is situated in Kolhapur District, Maharashtra state, India. The National Park is spread over 317.67 square kilometers.

Sahyadri Tiger Reserve consists of Chandoli National Park in full along with Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary. Sahyadri Tiger Reserve has 9 tigers & 66 leopards, as per the last count.

Peth Vadgaon at 60 kilometers, Sangli at 75 kilometers, Kolhapur at 80 kilometers, Uran Islampur at 35 kilometers, Karad at 55 kilometers and Sangmeshwar at 40 kilometers distance are some of the nearby towns. Mumbai is at 380 kilometers and Pune at 210 kilometers distance from the National Park, Distance given may not be accurate.

Karad is the nearest railway station, Sangli, Kolhapur, Miraj rail junction are other nearby railway stations. Miraj rail junction is well connected to other parts of the country.

Karad airport is the nearest one. Sangli New Airport and Kolhapur airports are also nearby airports to the National Park. Pune airport is the nearest International airport.
