Adiyogi – Abode of Yoga and the 112 Feet Tall Lord Shiva Statue

Adiyogi is the Abode of Yoga and a energy source for people to enhance their well-being. Adiyogi means the first yogi in the Hindi Language. (Adi means first or beginning, and Yogi means one who practices Yoga. )

A massive 112 feet Adiyogi statue was consecrated atop Velliangiri mountains on 24th February 2017 by the Honorable Prime Mister of India, Narendra Modi, at Isha Institute premises, near Coimbatore city, Tamilnadu state, India.

Jaggi Vasudev, commonly known as Sadhguru, founded Isha Institute.

Prayer or worship is not required at the Abode. You may make offerings here. If you are looking for yoga websites, look at the menu under the “Yoga” section, on the Isha website. Yoga classes are conducted here: Beginners Program, Special Program, and Advanced Program are some of the yoga classes taught here. You may also join them as a yoga instructor.

How Do I Go to Adiyogi, The Abode of Yoga, or Isha Yoga Center?

Adiyogi, The Abode of Yoga is at Velliangiri mountains, around 40 kilometers from Coimbatore city.

Coimbatore is well connected by roads to other parts of the country. Coimbatore has a major railway station. There is also an airport at Coimbatore.

Bus number 14D from Gandhipuram goes to Isha Yoga Center at the foothills of the Velliangiri mountains. It goes via Collectorate, railway station, Town Hall, etc. Isha Yoga Center is the last stop for this bus. There is a huge parking ground here. If you are coming by private vehicle, you can park your car here. You have to walk around 750 meters or so from this parking area to the Yoga Center.  If you can not walk, there are bullock carts, which are available for a separate fee.

The first bus to Isha Yoga Center starts at 5:30 a.m. The last bus to Isha Yoga Center is at 09:15 p.m.

How Do I Go to Isha Yoga Center or Adiyogi by Walk?

Poondi Vellingkiri Adivaram Temple is the entry point for those who wish to climb the hills on foot. You have to get down here and go inside the temple. The ascent to Isha Yoga Center starts, once you cross this temple. You have to remove your footwear and keep it with you before you enter the temple. Once you leave the temple, you may wear footwear and climb the stairs. If you are planning to go to Isha by walk from Poondi Vellingkiri Temple, please carry water and snacks with you. There are no shops en route to the hills. You have to cross seven hills to reach the Isha Yoga Center.

What are the Timings of Adiyogi?

Adiyogi is open from 8 am to 8 pm, on all days. Guru Pooja is held at 11:50 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. Special ‘Arathi’ is conducted at 6 p.m., on weekends.
