Patiala is an ancient and historic city in Indian Punjab. Its the capital of district with the same name.

Patiala city is build around the Qila Mubarak, the ancient and historic palace. Foundation for this Palace, Qila Mubarak, was laid in 1763 by King Baba Ala Singh, the founder of the erstwhile Princely state of Patiala. This Palace, Qila Mubarak, is a fine example of Sikh architecture.

Moti Bagh Palace, Sheesh Mahal, Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib, Qila Mubarak complex, Shri Kali Devi Temple, etc, are some of the other ancient historic buildings here.

Bhadurgarh Fort, built in 1658 A.D., on your way to Chandigarh, is at around 6 kilometers from the city. It is spread over an area of two square kilometers.

Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, the erstwhile King of Patiala, is the first Indian to own an aero-plane.

Patiala Salwar Kameez and Patiala pants, (Punjabi ladies dress) are popular among Indian ladies.

How Do I Go to Patiala?

Patiala is well connected by roads to other parts of the country. Other cites like Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana are connected by roads. Nearby states like New Delhi and Chandigarh are also connected by good roads.

There is a major railway station in the city. Chandigarh Airport is the nearest operational airport.
