Kalimpong is a picturesque hill station at an altitude of 4101 feet or 1250 meters in West Bengal, India.
This historic town was the gateway for the trade between India and Tibet, till the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950.
Kalimpong town is on a ridge overlooking River Teesta. Orchids forms the main part of Horticulture industry here. The hill station town is also famous for Ginger cultivation. The surrounding areas of the hill station are famous for the Darjeeling Tea. The hill station town is also famous for its schools, which attracts lot of students from within the country and neighboring Asian countries. 27 Mountain Division of Indian Army is located on the outskirts of this hill station town.

This Hill station town with Himalayas on the background is an ideal destination for any tourist. Its also a Buddhist pilgrimage center. Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Monastery located on this hill station town is famous for its Rare Tibetan Buddhist Scriptures. The Kalimpong Science Center, on top of the Deolo Hills, is another tourist destination established in the last decade.
How Do I Go to Kalimpong Hill Station?
Kalimpong Hill station town was earlier part of Darjeeling district. Recently, the Government has announced the town as the headquarters of the newly formed district with the same name.
Sevok to Gangtok National Highway Link, NH 31A passes close to the town. (NH 31 is the main National Highway connecting Sevok with Siliguri.) Siliguri, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Kurseong, etc, are some of the nearby towns which are connected by regular bus services to this hill station.
The nearest airport, Bagdogra airport near Silguri, is at around 50 kilometers distance. New Jalpaiguri railway station near Silguri is the closest major railway station.
