Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is a famous Lord Shiva temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh and is one among the 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India.
Three storied Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple, sacred abode of Lord Shiva, is believed to be built in 6th century B.C on the banks of Rudra Sagar lake. The main deity is placed as dakshinamurti, i.e. facing the direction of south. The present day structure of the temple was built in 1736 and renovations were carried out in later years.
