Mylapore Kapaleeswarar Temple or Arulmigu Kapaleeswarar Temple (official name) is an ancient temple in Dravidian architecture at Mylapore, Chennai. Shiva’s consort, Parvati in the form of Karpagambal is the main deity at this temple.
Mylapore Kapaleeswarar Temple was built by Vijayanagar rulers of the Tuluva Dynasty which reigned from 1491 to 1570 CE. Original temple is believed to be a temple built by Pallavas during the 7th century.
There are two gokurams (entrances) to temple on Eastern and Western sides. The Eastern gopuram is 40 meters in height, while the Western gopuram facing the Temple Tank is smaller in height.
