Chikmagalur Hill station is a beautiful hill station situated at an altitude of around 3,580 feet above mean sea level, in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka state, India.
Chikmagalur means ‘younger daughter’s town’ in local language, Kannada. Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in the state of Karnataka and is located at just 12 kilo meters distance from Chikmagalur. The spectacular view of the Sunset from the Mullayanagiri peak is a must-see for any tourist.
There is a small temple (tomb) at the summit, dedicated to a Tapasvi “Mulappa swamy”, who is believed to have meditated at the caves a couple of feet below the summit. The caves which was open to the public till a few years ago and has direct access to the tomb of the temple, is now blocked by the temple.
