Yelagiri Hills is situated near to Vellore (Katpadi) in Tamilnadu, India. These Hills are beautiful hills, at an altitude of around 1400 meters above sea level.
There are many rose-gardens, orchards and green valley in and around the hills here. The whole of Yelagiri was owned by a landlord. These properties were taken over by Indian Government in the 1950’s.
Tourists can not think of a trip without trekking the hills here. Swami Mala (mala means hill in the Tamil language), at 3 kilometers away, offers breathtaking view of the valleys, down. You need to trek to this Swami mala or Swami hill. Nowadays, Elagiri is being promoted for paragliding and rock climbing and other adventure sports.
Every year, there is a summer festival conducted during the end of May end. The summer festival attracts a lot of tourists. Flower Show, Dog Show and other Cultural Programs marks the Yelagiri Summer Festival.
Jalagamparai Waterfalls at 14 kilometers distance from Tirupattur town is a beautiful fall nearby.
Another nearby hill station Yercaud lies at around 150 kilometers from Yelagiri.
How Do I Go to Yelagiri Hills?
Yelagiri Hills in between Vaniyambadi and Jolarpettai towns, (i.e. after Vellore and Ambur, if you are coming from Chennai, on the NH 46). It is is located off Vaniyambadi – Tirupattur state highway. You need to take the serpentine ghat road from Ponneri Junction, with 14 hairpin bents. This ghat road offers breath-taking view of the valley.
Bangalore is the nearest airport at 190 kilometers away from Elagiri. Chennai airport is at 220 kilometers away. Jolarpettai Junction in between Salem and Kadpadi stations (railway station name for Vellore) is the nearest major railway station to these hills.

O’nila Resorts is one of the best resorts in Yelagiri which caters to many Multi National Companies with swimming pool, multi gym, restaurant, sports facilities like Cricket, basket ball, volley ball and shuttle badminton courts in Mangalam road.
Sterling resorts, Cliff top resorts, Tamilnadu government owned TTDC Yelagiri, Peters Park, etc, are some of the other well known hotels in this small hill station town. There are many low budget hotels and resorts also at this hill station.
